Not every day needs to be spent in a vehicle. Within easy reach of Nairobi there is white-water rafting, kayaking and zip lining over river gorges, and we can arrange a bungee jump for those who want one.

We book the activity with licensed operators, handle the transfers and fit the day into your route, usually at the start or end of a safari.

On the river

The Tana River at Sagana, on the way to Mount Kenya, has rapids for first-timers and a tougher section for those who have rafted before. A rafting trip runs most of a day, with a safety briefing, all equipment, a guide in every raft and lunch on the bank. Kayaking and calmer float trips are available for those who want the river without the white water.

In the air

Zip lines run over river gorges and forest canopy, and are a good choice for families with older children. Bungee jumping is arranged on request: tell us early and we will find the right operator for your dates.

Around Lake Naivasha, Hell's Gate offers cycling between the cliffs and a scramble through the gorge, and you can kayak on the lake itself.

Good to know

Do I need experience?

No. Rafting and zip lining operators run trips for first-timers, with a safety briefing and all equipment provided.

Can children take part?

Many activities have a minimum age, usually somewhere between eight and fourteen depending on the river grade or line. Tell us their ages and we will suggest what fits.

Do I need to be able to swim?

For rafting it is strongly recommended. Life jackets and helmets are always worn, and guides brief you on what to do if you end up in the water.

When is the river best?

Rafting runs all year. Water levels are higher and the rapids bigger after the rains, from April to June and in November.
